Urban Replacements

The goal of this project was to conceive of alternative urban futures through the lens of animation and digital material design. I chose Primrose Hill in London, UK as my testbed.

Procedural Material Application

I needed to devise an algorithm that would trace the topography of a base object and apply my designed materials accordingly.

Urban Replacements

I used this mapping technique to suggest a juxtaposition between the potential parasitic qualities of urban centers and the greenery they replace.

Translating Material to Landscape

Using a variation of my material expression algorithm, I painted both synthetic and natural textures onto the original urban landscape of Primrose Hill. The result was an expression of cities as a natural, pulsating force reflecting our most wasteful tendencies back at us.
